I first got engaged in environmental action, when a landfill was proposed next to my neighborhood on the island of Kauai. That really woke me up. I realized I needed to take complete responsibility for my actions and how they affected the planet. Limiting my waste and environmental impact became my top priority, not only in my personal life, but in my career as well.
At the time of this shift, I was the General Manager of a multi-million dollar business. I made the conscious decision (and in 2005, a somewhat risky decision), to turn what was a conventional business into a sustainably-minded, green business. In the first two years alone, while "going green", revenue increased 22%. In the process, I paved the way for others to do the same via a Green Business pilot program. And after over a decade of experience in sustainability and zero waste, I created this business to help others on their path towards sustainability.
In addition to business managment, my career spans the nonprofit sector, as a Program Manager and Special Events Coordinator. As an environmental leader, I proudly served many years with Zero Waste Kauai (successfully passing the Plastic Bag & Styrofoam Ban on the island of Kauai). And I received my ZWBA (Zero Waste Business Associate) certification from the US Zero Waste Business Council.
At home, I seek to live a zero waste lifestyle, limit my chemical exposure and tread lightly on the planet. In my free time, I volunteer for Citizens' Climate Lobby (CCL), I'm a Zero Waste Block Leader for the City of Austin and a Climate Reality Leader. And you can often find out on the trails of Austin with my boxer, Java.
I’d love to work together to help you achieve your green goals!
